We are excited to announce that Géssica Barreto is coming to Den Haag for the first time! She will teach two workshops to show you the best of what a “de boinha” dance can be.
About Géssica
Géssica Barreto is an artist, researcher, and forró teacher, with a postgraduate degree in Dance and Body Awareness, and currently pursuing an Interdisciplinary Bachelor's in Arts at UFBA. She believes that forró is a cultural, social, and political movement, and that it is possible to use the body-mind as a tool for revolution, change, and self-awareness.
She has been working as a forró pé de serra teacher since 2018, giving classes in Salvador and other cities in Bahia, as well as in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and the Federal District. Additionally, she is on her third European tour, spreading forró across the globe.
Her main goal today is to teach people to dance forró with greater body awareness, autonomy, and creativity, using contemporary and feminist perspectives. Her motto is: “Have the courage to dance to your own rhythm!”

Prerequisites: At least 1 year of experience in forró classes and socials. You should be able to combine movements to create sequences. - 21:00 - 22:00: Open Level | Room 1.08
Prerequisites: Being comfortable with basic steps and simple turns in forró. Not suitable for complete beginners.
